The #1 Mistake While Working From Home

Globally, our remote workforce is in full effect.

While there are many positives to working from home, such as avoiding a long commute to the office, there is one major pitfall to avoid.

Before sharing this one single point, I understand that this may not be well received by everyone working from home.

Rather, this is for the individuals out there who are actively looking to grow themselves and their careers by bringing their best self to the market every day.

Here is the major reality check that we may or may not be currently sticking to: Wake up on time, get ready and dressed professionally as if you were still going to the office.

Boom.

As I stated previously, I can already hear the push back from the average thinkers.

Why would I get dressed when I can just work in my pajamas all day? I mean I’m so much more comfortable that way.

If comfort is what you seek, then don’t bother getting out of bed in the first place.

This is for those who are actively looking to grow and get out of their comfort zone. Those who seek to find a better, smarter, stronger version of themselves.

Instead of just letting this new gift of time get lost in another social media feed, let this be your opportunity to build a solid morning routine.

If you have ever wanted to have extra time in your day, well here it is. What you do with it is solely up to you.

While every company and each position may come with a different protocol once the work day starts, those precious hours and minutes that were once spent in bumper to bumper traffic on the freeway can now be invested in you.

Exercise, read, pray, meditate, spend time with your kids, do something productive with the early morning hours.

Then get showered, dressed, and ready for the day.

Suga Free —Staying Ready

If you stay ready, you ain’t got to get ready” — DJ Quick & Suga Free

That’s right, if you stay ready, you don’t have to get ready. This alone frees up your mental space which is already being jabbed and picked at by the numerous distractions we face daily.

Being ready for the day is infinitely better than chasing after the day.

While you are getting ready for the day, do yourself a favor and don’t watch the news.

Let’s take a quick example and say we started our day by waking up thankful for the day and spent some time in prayer and meditation.

If we were to follow that by watching the news after, it would be no different than taking a shower getting nice and clean, then going into the backyard and rolling in the dirt.

Why would we do something crazy like that?

Is it because everyone else is doing it?

If we spend some time reflecting on these unconscious patterns of behavior that we all do as humans, it is stunning how often we get in our own way.

Get out of your own way.

Stay positive, think positive, and just say no to those attempting to lower our states of being.

To answer that question Why should I get dressed and ready if nobody can see me?

It doesn’t matter if nobody else can see you.

You can see you.

While many of us are so busy attempting to please others and care about what others think, we often fail to realize that what you think of you is more important than what someone else thinks of you.

Don’t do it for anybody else, do it for you. If you value yourself and have a vision for a strong and bright future ahead, let that emanate from you in every way possible.

Your confidence will be at a higher level when you are dressed and looking sharp, guaranteed.

If you are in sales, then you better believe this is a huge advantage over your competition. If you are not in sales, this is still a huge positive over your competition.

There is competition and there will always be competition.

Forget about these fairytale stories of everyone getting treated equally and compensated just for being there.

We are in a competition, every day whether we like it or not.

Knowing who your number one competitor is will separate you from the pack and guarantee that you make progress.

Is it your boss? Your rival from the competitor company? That jerk who just cut you off on the way to grab lunch?

Your competition is yourself.

It always has been and always will be. Your goal should be to beat that person in the mirror every single day.

Even if by only a fraction of a percent, get better. Every day.

Read a little bit more, a couple more repetitions on your next exercise set, stay more productive on the job, plan for that business that you have in mind.

Forget about the noise out there in the world. You have a whole lot inside of you just waiting to be cultivated and tapped in to.

Bring your best self to the day every day.

Your future self will thank you for it.

Until next time, keep pushing and progressing..
